Written in the Stars...
Aug. 6th, 2013 11:09 amThe mirror reflected a tranquil serving girl, in a maid's uniform. Her hair was neatly combed, tucked under a pristine, white bonnet. Her fingernails were smooth and proper. All together, she had the look of someone very much in control, very much a part of the well-oiled machine that was the master's household.
That girl wasn't Artemis.
She had tendered her resignation a matter of moments ago. It was largely for show. She had never really been a part of the staff, but only the master knew that. He knew what she really was. He and his youngest, Japeth, alone. In the end, they agreed, there would be more talk and scandal if she slipped away without notice than if she publicly resigned. Oh, there would be whispers. That much was certain. Explanations of her sudden change of heart would swirl around for months to come. But they'd be forgotten eventually. Just as Artemis herself would be forgotten. Eventually.
( But she would not forget... )
